Abdominoplasty

Even if you maintain a healthy weight, eat right, and exercise regularly, your saggy, stretched out tummy might still be causing you grief. An abdominoplasty from the New York Group for Plastic Surgery, also known as a "tummy tuck," can help you feel more confident and love the look of your abdomen.

By choosing abdominoplasty, you can finally achieve the look you've been working so hard to get. Surgeons at the New York Group for Plastic Surgery have been performing tummy tuck and other body contouring procedures for over 2 decades and our many satisfied patients are a testament to our team's experience and compassionate approach to patient care.

Improvements from Abdominoplasty in New York

A tummy tuck is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for both women and men who visit our practice and throughout the country. Our patients choose tummy tucks in our New York offices for many personal reasons, which often include:

  • Removing excess loose skin from the front of the abdomen
  • Tightening stretched or separated abdominal muscles
  • Sculpting the waistline
  • Flattening and smoothing the abdominal profile
  • Increasing self esteem in and out of clothing

If you intend to lose a lot of weight or become pregnant, you should probably postpone your procedure, as many of the improvements you gain will be lost. Our patients often combine tummy tuck with other procedures including breast augmentation, breast lift, and liposuction for a more comprehensive enhancement called a "mommy makeover".

For less severe cases of loose, sagging skin and abdominal muscles that have not separated, your surgeon might suggest a less invasive "mini-abdominoplasty." This procedure involves smaller scars and a shorter recovery period than the traditional tummy tuck. Your surgeon will help you determine whether this procedure is an option for you during your personal consultation.

What to Expect

At the New York Group for Plastic Surgery, abdominoplasty surgery is performed under heavy sedation or general anesthesia in our on-site, outpatient facility. Standard abdominoplasty usually takes 2 to 5 hours, while mini-abdominoplasty is complete in about 1 to 2 hours. You will need someone to drive you home and help you out for a few days after your procedure.

Initially, your abdomen will probably be swollen and feel sore. You will need to wear a compression garment for the first few weeks to minimize swelling and encourage a smooth, compact abdominal shape. In spite of your discomfort, your surgeon will instruct you to walk around within the first few days to encourage blood flow and healing.

Your recovery time will depend on the extent of your surgery and the condition you were in before the surgery. If you are physically fit at the time of your surgery, you are able to enjoy a faster recovery time. Some patients are able to return to light activity, including work, after about 2 weeks, while others might take 3 to 4 weeks away from the workplace.

When chosen with clear and realistic expectations, our New York tummy tuck patients can be extremely pleased with their results. Women and men alike enjoy looking better in a variety of more fitted clothing options. You might even be confident enough to show off your leaner, flatter abdomen in a new swimsuit. The possibilities are exciting; let the New York Group for Plastic Surgery take you there!
