When you make the decision to move forward with breast augmentation, one of the hardest choices awaiting you is the size of your implants. There are many options in sizes, shapes and projections of implants today, ensuring every woman can achieve results most proportionate with her body profile. Deciding which implant will give you the best result can be challenging, but with the help of an experienced plastic surgeon and today’s technology, you can make the right choice for you.

Factors to Consider

To ensure the implants you choose fit with the rest of your body, there are a number of factors to consider:

  • Chest and shoulder-width
  • Waist and hips size
  • Current breast measurements
  • Skin elasticity

It is also important to think about what you want your results to look like. Do you want breast enhancement that makes people think you have lovely, natural curves or makes them wonder who your plastic surgeon is? Most women choose the natural route so they can keep their augmentation procedure under wraps with at least some of their social circle. Other women want dramatic results that are sure to get noticed.

Forget “Cup” Size

Breast implants are not measured by cup size, even though this is the standard most women think about when they consider breast augmentation. Implants are actually measured in cubic centimeters or cc. As a general rule, 150-200 cc tends to equal about one cup size. However, while cup size can vary from body shape to body shape, cc measurements are much more consistent.

Risks with Large Implants

When it comes to breast implants, bigger isn’t always better. In fact, there are additional long-term risks associated with choosing implants that are too big for your body profile:

  • Breast rippling
  • Thinning of skin and tissue
  • Breast sagging
  • Stretchmarks
  • Back and neck discomfort
  • Unnatural results and dissatisfaction with the procedure

“Seeing” Your Results

At New York Group for Plastic Surgery, we offer the latest technology to help you “see” your breast augmentation results prior to your procedure. Vectra XT imaging allows us to capture a 3D image of your breasts before and after surgery so you can get an accurate idea of what your results will look like. We also have breast implant samples in our office, so you can “try on” new breast sizes to see how they will feel and look underneath your clothing.

If you are ready to move forward with breast augmentation, choosing the right implant size is the key component to a successful procedure. To learn more, contact New York Group for Plastic Surgery at one of our four locations: New York City at 888-834-2075 or Tarrytown at 914-366-6139.
