If you are thinking about plastic surgery to enhance your bikini body this summer, now is the time to take action. The upcoming months are typically the best time to indulge in a plastic surgery procedure and ensure your results are fully complete by summer. Want to know what’s new in breast augmentation? This procedure has come a long way in the past two decades.

Breast Implants

There are multiple options in breast implants today, with a variety of profiles, shapes and sizes to fit any woman’s anatomy and desired results. At New York Group for Plastic Surgery, we offer both saline and silicone implants. Silicone implants tend to be the most popular choice due to their natural look and feel, but some patients are better suited for saline implants based on any number of factors.

Breast implants are placed into breast tissue via a very small incision that might be located in the breast crease, around the areola or in the armpit. Once the implants are in, they can last many years – some even last a lifetime. Of course, women also have the option of removing the implants at any time, to switch to a different size or remove the implants completely.

Fat Transfer

Another recent option in breast augmentation is a procedure known as autologous fat transfer. This procedure removes fat from one area of the body, such as the midsection or thighs, and transfers it to the breasts. Multiple injections of fat cells are performed to give breasts a symmetrical, natural look. Fat transfer offers a number of benefits to patients that are not wanting a large increase in breast size, including no incisions or scarring, quicker recovery and the most natural look and feel.

“Seeing” Your Results

Because it can be difficult for patients to choose the size and shape of implant that will fit them best, New York Group for Plastic Surgery offers 3D imaging to help you “see” how your enhanced breasts will look in proportion to the rest of your body profile. We also have samples of breast implants in our office that allow you to “try on” different shapes and sizes. By giving you a more accurate vision of how your breasts will look after augmentation, you can go into your surgery confident that you will be happy with your results.

Giving Your Body Time to Heal

Breast augmentation does require a recovery process, which can vary greatly from patient to patient. Most of the discomfort after surgery occurs in the first few days, which is also the time when patients require the most medication. After that initial period, bruising and swelling begin to subside and patients are able to return to light activities. Most patients are back to work within 7-10 days after breast augmentation, although more strenuous activity may be restricted for much longer. By scheduling your surgery now, you will be ready to get out and enjoy all the outdoor activities the summer months offer.
