FACELIFT POST-OP RECOVERY EXPECTATIONS

Facelift surgery is performed in our on-site outpatient facility, either under heavy sedation or general anesthesia. Because this procedure requires extreme precision, it can take your surgeon several hours to complete. You will need someone to drive you home and help you out for a few days afterwards.

Surgeons and staff of the New York Group for Plastic Surgery are here to support you after facelift surgery.

The following instructions and guidelines will help your recovery process:

  • During surgery, you will be placed in a bulky head dressing to put pressure on the surgical areas. The dressing will remain on until your first post-operative follow-up visit (1-3 days after surgery). If the dressing is too tight in that it is causing intolerable pain or discomfort, please call the office.
  • You may wash your hair after the head wrap has been removed.
  • Small amounts of bleeding or oozing are normal after the surgery. It is not uncommon that the bulky dressing becomes stained and the size of the stain may become larger after you go home.
  • Do not do anything that will increase pressure in your head (bending or lifting). This will cause your incision sites to bleed.
