What To Expect From Ear Pinning In New York

Ear shaping plastic surgery is performed in our on-site, New York outpatient facility. Young children are usually put under general anesthesia so they are not awake during the procedure. Older children and adults are usually put under heavy sedation with local anesthesia. The procedure usually takes 2 to 3 hours, but this time can increase with the complexity of the procedure.

After ear shaping surgery, the patient’s head is heavily wrapped to encourage healing and proper shaping. After a few days, the surgeon will fit a lighter dressing similar to a headband that will be worn for 1 or more weeks, depending on the extent of your surgery.

The patient will need to refrain from strenuous activity and avoid any impact to the ears as they heal. Most adults can return to work after about 5 days; children can return to school after about 7 days under restricted playground activity.
